Turning on the Waters Works
When John Waters, whose Cry-Baby musical adaptation of his 1990 Johnny Depp movie is in $54 previews on Broadway (it's set in 1954), joked on The Daily Show that Hairspray should be produced on ice, ice-show producers called the next day with serious offers, says Michael Musto in his VV column. Meanwhile, at a party for Cry-Baby (which Musto dubs "Grease with extra lube"), Waters asked the columnist if two Broadway musicals could be called a genre. (La Dolce Musto; photo: Cary Conover)
