Celebrities at Large

QuentintarantinoatlunchThere I was, at lunch at Abbott's Habit in Hollywood with three coworkers, when Quentin Tarantino came in and sat at a table right behind us. He was by himself, in a yellow Hawaiian shirt, and looking more like Frankenstien's monster than usual (seriously, is his forehead growing outward?). Everyone knows his movies are chock full of scenes with interesting characters engaged in interesting dialogue. Ever wondered where he gets it? He steals it. I had my back to him, but he was obviously paying attention to us because when I happened to mention a certain neon sign, he turned to look at it. As our topics of conversation alternated between sleazeball restaurant-bar owners, a little Asian man playing guitar like Stevie Ray Vaughan, and working in television, Tarantino was frantically taking notes, using a different color pen for each of us (so he could separate the dialogue without having to give us character names?). I was doing the most talking, which might be why my friend Ed figured I must be the red pen. In his defense, Tarantino was still writing when we drove past the place on our way back to work.
