Recently Dead

Stan Winston, who won four visual effects Oscars and was nominated many more times, died yesterday at home in Malibu after a seven-year illness with multiple myeloma. He was 62. A legend in the business of show, Winston "contributed to some of the greatest fantastic movie characters in motion picture history," said Phil Tippett, who shared an Oscar with Winston for visual effects on Jurassic Park. "His loss is a great one and he will be missed." Among his credits over 40 years are The Autobiograhy of Miss Jane Pittman, Aliens, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, AI: Artificial Intelligence, and Iron Man.
