When Tallulah Met Marlene

Tallulah-1Marlene,Jpg
I went to the "True Colors" concert Saturday night, and while I generally LOATHE nostalgia, I actually enjoyed myself and danced like a spaz to Andy Bell, the B-52s, and even Cyndi Lauper. And I hate Cyndi Lauper. Omg. But such is the power of Gay Pride. It got me to thinking, though, about the ORIGINAL "True Colors" series – on NBC radio back in the 1950s – when the "glamorous and unpredictable" female drag queen Tallulah Bankhead gathered together the gay icons of her day, and camped it up to the delight of faggots everywhere. Listen here to Tallulah and fellow foghorn Marlene Dietrich acting bitchy and singing "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better." It's SO NOT FUNNY, and yet you'll laugh at every cornball line.
