Edna Parker, the world's oldest person, died Wednesday at a nursing home in Shelbyville, Indiana. She was 115. Born in April, 1893, she had held the Guinness record for being the oldest person since 2007, when Japan's four-months-older Yone Ninagawa died. Now that Parker is dead, the honor will be passed on, so to speak, to Portugal's Maria de Jesus, born in September, 1893. Parker, a former schoolteacher, is survived by five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. Grandson Don Parker, 60, said, "She kept active. We used to go up there [to the nursing home] and she would be pushing other patients in their wheelchairs." Coincidentally, the Shelbyville facility was also home to Sandy Allen, the world's tallest woman (7'9"), who died in August. The two were friends, but we doubt Parker was able to push her wheelchair.
