An Italian priest is organizing an online beauty pageant for nuns in an attempt to quash the stereotype that they're all old and gross. And perhaps also to lure the young and the lapsed into the fold. The Reverend Antonio Rungi intends to run the competition online at first, with the hope it will become a hit and make the jump into the real world and compete with the festive Miss Italia pageant. Visitors to the priest's blog will be able to vote for "Miss Sister 2008" beginning in September. Nuns will have filled out profiles of themselves with information about their lives and vocations as well as photographs, with optional head covering. "Being ugly is not a requirement for becoming a nun," says the rev. "External beauty is gift from God, and we mustn't hide it." Unfortunately, the sisters will not be parading in bathing suits.
