An investigation by the Smoking Gun has shown that singer Akon's claims of a long and wild criminal career resulting in hard time in prison is almost wholly bogus. While his rap sheet does include half-a-dozen arrests, he was convicted of only one felony, for gun possession in 1998, which ended with a guilty plea and the singer sentenced to three years probation. Another bust that same year which, in his fanciful bio, was responsible for his being sent to prison for three years, was, in fact, for possession of a stolen car and sent him to jail for only a few months before the case was dropped. There was no conviction, no prison term, and he was never "facing 75 years," as he claimed in a videotaped interview. Fascinating read.
