Bleeping Censorship

Janetsuperbowlboob
The Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake controversial "wardrobe malfunction" incident at the 2004 Super Bowl half time show is back in court. The FCC fined CBS $550,000 over the incident, but the network claims that "fleeting, isolated or unintended" images should not automatically be labeled indecent. Of course, the FCC disagrees and will slug it out with the defense. (Source)

Recently the commission has come under fire for several cases involving indecency. In June their policies on indecent speech involving the use of the 'f-word' by a celebrity at the Billboard Music Awards was rejected by the 2nd US Circuit Court of Appeals. A bill is also currently being considered by senators who want the FCC "to maintain a policy that a single word or image may be considered indecent."

Some blasts from the past: President Bush telling British Prime Minister Tony Blair that the UN needed to "get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit." Cher using the phrase "Fuck 'em" at a Billboard awards show. Nicole Richie at another Billboard awards show saying, "Have you ever tried to get cow shit out of a Prada purse? It's not so fucking simple." U2's Bono exclaiming "Fucking brilliant" at the Golden Globes.
