Recently Dead
Jane Wyman, who won a best actress Oscar for her performance as a deaf-mute rape victim in 1948's Johnny Belinda and played the matriarch on the '80s primetime soap Falcon Crest, died today at home in Palm Springs. She was 93. The actress who earned Oscar nominations for 1946's The Yearling, '51's The Blue Veil, and '54's Magnificent Obsession, also took home best actress Golden Globes for for her work in Belinda and Veil. But in her long and varied career she may best be remembered as the Hollywood wife of actor and future leader of the free world, Ronald Reagan, before Nancy Davis got her hooks into him, and for engaging in the longest screen kiss ever put on film when she and Regis Toomey went at it for three minutes and five seconds in 1941's You're in the Army Now. I remember watching her when she played in Falcon Crest. Her and Lana Turner were really good at going at each other. Jane Wyman is a good actress and will be missed.

O Jane Jane, it was you who inspired my fringe, long before I'd heard of Betty Page.
