Nothing to Sniff At

Andy Warhol's name continues to be depreciated by, ironically, the Andy Warhol Foundation licensing division. Andy would not have liked those Levi's Warhol Factory X jeans now with a Damien Hirst tie-in, nor this nincompoop perfume called "Silver Factory" from Bond No.9. "Bond No.9, famous for capturing the scents of New York City," says basenotes.net, "are teaming up with the Andy Warhol Foundation to create a collection of scents that capture Warhol's vision of New York." Warhol's vision of the scents of New York (what?) was already produced by him back in the '60s when he created a perfume called "You're In," and contained it in a silver Coke bottle. What better vision of the smell of New York is there than urine? Then in 2004, someone brought out a series of colognes and perfumes with the Warhol name and Marilyn Monroe images that at least had trace elements of Warhol's style. But Andy got it right the first time. (via BoingBoing)
