Tom and Tom Again

Leonardo DiCaprio, so unbelievable as Howard Hughes in Scorcese's The Aviator, was originally set to star as 81-year-old Hugh Hefner in a proposed biopic to be directed by the schlocky Brett Rattner, but now there's talk that Tom Cruise wants to prove his acting mettle once and for all by playing the head playboy. It's still in the rumor stage and Cruise's publicist is non-commital: "A lot of people consider Tom for a lot of roles." Meanwhile, considering Cruise for the role of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg in Valkyrie wasn't such a smart move, according to Fox News' Roger Friedman:

Cruise wears an eye patch and a Nazi uniform, but speaks with the same flat, unaffected American accent that places him somewhere between Redondo Beach and Johnny Rockets. It’s absolutely hysterical to hear and see a boyish Nazi with blazing white perfect teeth and that voice announce, “We must kill Hitler.” [...] It’s as if Meryl Streep wandered into Sophie’s Choice sounding like a Valley Girl.
