Never thought we'd have to report this in our lifetime, but Anna Nicole Smith is dead. The beleaguered 39-year-old former waitress turned Guess model turned Playboy centerfold turned reality star turned widow turned heiress turned diet spokesmodel turned constant litigant was found unconscious this afternoon in her room at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital, where she was DOA. They're saying overdose. However, foulplay has not been ruled out. Her death is not only a very sad loss for her infant daughter, but also for the hundreds of bloggers who counted on waking up every morning to report her daily troubles. World of Wonder was an early, er, champion of the fallen beauty, and documented some of her life in the film Dark Roots: The Unauthorized Anna Nicole. Have hankies handy, here's a clip.

[Ed note: The above death notice was written hastily hours ago to hang onto the clip which WOW staffers set about finding, digitizing, editing, and whatever else had to be done to prepare it for posting – although we suspect lunch intervened in the progress. Meanwhile, news of Smith's death is no longer news; in fact, she's been dead so long now that tragedy has segued deftly into humor and blog commenters are starting to crack wise, like these over at Defamer:

• She'd do anything to put off that DNA test.
• Will her work in Naked Gun 33 1/3 earn her a spot in the Academy Awards memorial montage?
• It's just too bad she never realized that the 'Exclusive Anna Nicole dead photos!' money won't actually be able to be spent by her.
• Well at least now Angelina can adopt the baby.
• Does anyone think it'd still be cool to stroke to Ann Nicole's pictures? Damn.]
