Who's Shooting JR?

John Travolta joins Shirley MacLaine, Luke Wilson, and director Robert Luketic on the growing list of talent dropped from the future film version of the TV series Dallas. Suits say the production will be going in a way different from its original treatment, ie, a behind-the-scenes show-within-a-show comedy similar to the nightmare that was Bewitched. With the new slapstick version in mind, Ben Stiller's been hired to replace Travolta as JR Ewing, and the budget's been substantially reduced. "John was given a nice seven-figure 'gift' to go away quietly," a source told Page Six. "He also got five family members roles in the movie, and they aren't going to be in it now either." A friend of Travolta's confirmed he's not doing the movie, but balked at the perks. "I don't know about any 'gift,' and I don't think the family member thing is correct," he said.
