Pee-wee's Depposition

The rumor everyone for some reason is scratching their heads over today, that Johnny Depp will be playing Pee-wee Herman in the movie version of Pee-wee's Playhouse, is simple to explain. Two days ago, in a story on the MTV site about the two Pee-wee movies Paul Reubens has in the works, the actor said that if it turned out to be unrealistic for him at 55 to play the childlike character, he had a "backup plan":

"My second option is to have Johnny Depp play Pee-wee," he said. Pie-in-the-sky casting or a realistic plan, Reubens insisted that he's even spoken to Depp about it, saying that the actor told him, "Let me think about it."
