You Should See the Other Bloke
The concert at Rome's Piper Club that evening started out pleasantly enough, with Pete Doherty breaking the mic stand and throwing it in the air, spraying the audience with wine and hurling a can of beer at them, and then destroying all the Babyshambles instruments, you know, in that way he has. Possibly because someone had thrown a bottle onto the stage, hitting the drummer. But later, outside the club, things turned not so dolce when Doherty jumped on a paparazzo (in the city where Fellini coined the term) and began beating him. Band members used metal ashtrays (which they handily carried on their persons?) in the ensuing brawl before the combatants were separated. Doherty, getting as good as he gave, was bleeding profusely from the head and was treated at the scene by fans and band members (who handily carry sterile gauze on their persons?); the photographer was taken to the hospital, where he woozily threatened to sue. In true rock style, female fans who witnessed the brawl were invited to party with the band back at the hotel. (Source)
