The Six-Million-Dollar Kournikova Question:
What Makes People Famous?

Akournikova
I just got a new job as an associate editor at Gaysports.com. If you all are interested in sports you should check it out. I love sports. No, I FUCKING LOVE SPORTS. Competition is the most invigorating thing that a person can imagine. I don’t drink 'cause alcohol tastes like camel piss. No, really, it doesn’t taste good. I know everyone thinks it does or says, “Oh, you just haven’t had the right drink.” Well, I don’t want the right drink. I like competition – it’s a much more powerful aphrodisiac, and you don’t feel like crap the next day.

I have been a sportaholic for a long time. I was the youngest person to win high point for horseback riding when I was 12. I was all-state football, tennis, soccer, and track in school. I trained as an ice dancer (shut up) and was on the national team. And now I want to compete with the 72 zillion other people who want to make the mark of fame in Hollywood. We all want it, at least a little. Even your mother wants to be recognized and remembered when she dies, that’s why we have kids. It’s something selfish to keep us famous. (LOL, I’m not really that deep, I just wanted to throw some thoughtful insight into this piece.)

I was at home sick today after a photo shoot, and since I had TiVoed the US Open from last month, I thought I'd catch up, but I found that I was thinking more than I was actually watching. I was thinking about Anna Kournikova. (I know, she wasn’t there.) When I say her name everyone knows it. She is cute, she was a pretty good tennis player, and she wasn’t absolutely retarded, but what makes her so special that people know her name? If I talked about Martina Hinges or Lindsay Davenport in the company of people who didn’t know tennis, it would be as if I was discussing the contents of Julia Roberts' purse…useless. But if I say Anna Kournikova people know her. OK, Lindsay does look like a she had a full-on collision with a Winnebago, but she is the number-one player and Martina ruled the game. Anna at best was in the top 10, but she’s the one with the endorsements, she’s the one in music videos, I mean she ain’t THAT pretty.

So what is it about people that makes you want to know who they are? Hollywood is full of wannabes and almost-famouses, so what is so special about me? Maybe it’s the fact that I’m willing to compete even if I’m gonna lose. I say what I feel, I take my clothes off, I shock people, but none of it is to make people like me. It’s the exact opposite. It’s because I don’t give a shit. I’ll do whatever it takes to compete. And, like Anna, maybe being the best is not the important part, maybe it’s willing to try everything without fear. Now, tell me what you think makes famous people famous, I really want to know! Oh, and I threw in the pic of Andy Roddick just to make sure the guys who like guys had someone to look at as well.

OK, I took a lot of Nyquil so if you think this sounds like drug-induced crap, you’d be right. BLOG HARD!

It’s always a business doing pleasure with you!

That was the COCKIEST piece of work to come out of Mr. Vox yet. He seems to take that "I know everything" stance, and it's starting to irritate me. I aborted the baby.

Mwah.

Vox...I like you, I really do. But I SERIOUSLY doubt you put yourself out there (in your own unique way) because you "don't give a shit" what people think about you. And that's not a bad thing.

I'm not above talking shit, or saying what's on my mind (as you may have heard)...so here goes. You've done porn dear. Now you can tell me it's because you like sex, or you're really into movie production, or the money's good, or any of the myriad explanations I've heard (and given) over the years. But honestly, sex work of any kind is almost ALWAYS about feeling accepted and admired by others. And no, I'm not talking out of my ass...I've done it.

On a side note: I REALLY hate to reference Michael Alig, EVER. However, he did have that whole celebrity thing figured out. If you convince people that you're an amazing person, worthy of praise and admiration, you will be rewarded with the honor of celebrity. Giving a shit about what people think about you is a part of that equation. Especially when you do and say things to the contrary. We all love a reluctant superstar. How do you think Morrissey has endured all these years.

I really don't even know what I'm trying to say at this point...so I'll just shut up. Besides, as usual, what the fuck do I know?

Sex work, for me, is about making other people happy.

And Andy Roddick is really dreamy, but not in that picture.

How much longer are we going to have to endure the mindless rants of Dylan Vox...seriously get rid of him already!

There is a reason why an Ace-King in Texas Hold 'Em is called "Anna Kournikova." When you're dealt an Ace-King, it looks really good and you're excited to see it, but when all is said and done, it usually ends up losing.
What makes people successful? I don't know. It could be their personality. It could be how they act in front of an audience. It could be how they play their sport. It could be how they look. It could even be the little things, like what they do when the spotlight is not on them. Success means different things to different people, I guess. Hmmm... unlike my fellow cohorts, I think this is kind of thought-proking, even if it was thought up during a Nyquil-induced haze. So like the cut tree said to the lumberjack, I'm stumped. Not the most exciting response in the world, but I just don't know.

And YCKTR, I LIKE YOU!
I think it takes an experienced "soul" to reference that scenario.... After a year or so of being privy to your many candid disclosures, & sort of, revelations? I like you even more. How's that old Blues Traveler song go? (B.T.? Blecht, BUT- The lyrics, are my point, these really made sense,.. oh yeah,.. "The Heart Brings You Back?" Yup. I know he talks hella fast, but,.. you get it.
~ Whether people admit it or NOT- EVERYONE cares how they are perceived. Some are just better at hiding it than others. And it's OKAY to let people, to let anyone, know that you care about what they are thinkin'. Finding the most quiet, unknown, under-spoken person at the party, rubbing elbows with them for a sec, and mentioning, how you worried all day about getting into slacks you "Knew were going to be too small for my fat arce," Etc, As long as it's genuine, Self mockery, followed by a resounding compliment, attention and RESPECT.
I've digressed, again...
I think, that it is a guise of consideration & respect, towards yourself, and others, to care about what the people think of you.
And on that same token, Nothing attracts a person (Or people) more, than when they feel respected, & considered.
So, yes, giving a shit about every aspect of your "Appearances" is ginormously important.
Respect. R*E*S*P*E*C*T, find out what it means to me.

I think you do those things because you do want people to love you, Dylan. I think that you were probably one of those kids in school who was so afraid of being gay [and still is --- ex: "I trained as an ice dancer (shut up)"] that you didn't want to hang out with girls because you thought you would be picked on. You also couldn't make any guy friends that you could really relate to so your only alternative was to join the sports teams and be friends with your teammates.

You were a sports team gay, and I guess you still are. Don't act like it's because you "don't give a shit" because you obviously give a shit if people make fun of you for ice dancing. You're still a tad bit repressed, whether you want to admit it or not. It's obvious from this posting.
