The St. James Version
I’ve found it! Yes! The Holy Grail of club-kid talk show appearances! A 1990 Joan Rivers Show interview with Leigh Bowery, Michael Alig, Ernie Glam, me, and a not-quite-polished-yet Amanda Lepore! I lost my copy about 10 years ago and have been trying to find another one ever since. Nobody taped it. Nobody remembers seeing it. I even contacted Joan, herself, a few years ago, only to discover that all the original masters from the show had been mislabeled and were probably lost in the studio vault forever. I had all but given up hope. But thanks to my friend Brett (YAY BRETT!) it lives again! After viewing it for the first time in over a decade, though, I have to say that it’s not QUITE as fabulous as I remembered it being. We were all pretty young and stupid back then. But I suppose it’s a great moment-in-time piece: Leigh is still very much alive, Michael is merely impish instead of dangerously out-of-control, and Amanda! – oh my God – Amanda is just so fresh and awkward and adorable, a far cry from the rock-hard chic she’s known for these days. I remember before we went on, she was so nervous she was shaking and her teeth were chattering. “What should I say? What should I say?” she kept asking. “Just explain that you are every man’s fantasy, you are the ideal woman,” Michael suggested, helpfully. That’s why anytime Joan asks her a question, she robotically responds with: “I am every man’s fantasy, the ideal woman.” FABULOUS!
I’ve tried to capture some of the highlights here for you. The quality is sort of bad, it’s a third or fourth generation video that had been sitting in a basement for years, but it’s still pretty fun to watch, if I say so myself. Best scenes? Joan playing with Leigh’s boobage, and Amanda explaining how she got kicked out of Disney World. (Watch the clip)

OK .. so I don't know how or when it happened.. but I can say it was recent.. you or your writing has become my secret little addiction!!! What to do, what to do. I am just glad to see you have written YET AGAIN!! *sigh* like a refreshing sip of coffee in the morning, YOU are a refreshing read, and I HAVE TO have my morning sip of coffee! mm hmm ( I will try to be patient, but it is not what I am known for)
OK and you look fabulous in your outfit, I am loving the FIRE ENGINE RED hair... I think I have seen better pictures of Michael though.

Hallelujah! I REMEMBER this and recently asked Michael about it in a letter. A few months ago I actually got into an argument with someone online who claimed that the lot of you were never on the Joan Rivers show. Thank you for the clips, and more importantly thank you for validating me. It means so much...and to the person that said this must've been a smack dream of mine - EAT IT BIATCH! ;)

James, You are truely a diety of counter culture pop. You are more relevant than you know and cured me of my insationable boredom today! Febuary sucks in canada. The snow here is just miserable, but luckily i have no job to worry about. You mentioned you are guilty about not going to the gym. Well I go everyday, except today. but i swear I go every other day!!! Im on these new pills called Revs. The ones Anna nicole used to get back to her guess model days...I think shes just the cats meow. What do you think of her? James I was so excited to see that you Posted something. You keep me entertiained while I am at working at my meaningless job. I am so excited for you that you finially found the long lost copy of the Joan Rivers show you have been searching for. Umm but I can't seem to view the video and I am vey upset about that. I see other people are haveing this problem as well. James, I absolutely adore your blogs, they put a smile on my face. I have recently just finished reading your book and found it rather indulging. It totally caught my interest from page one. I love to see that you have the Joan Rivers video on your page, its great. Knowing that you still do what you seemingly love and are passionate for it is very admirable. You seem to have loads of fun. This video just gave me a better idea of how you used to look(though you did a fabulous job explaining in the book). Anyways, I'm sure you have had enough of my praise towards you and I'm sure you love it. Looking forward to your next blog.

Awwwww! This clip made waking up after only sleeping for 4 hours completely worthwhile! Your nose is amazing! In fact, and I'm sure you know this, your whole outfit is fabulous! Amanda looks fantastic, as always, even if she's not quite done. And as much as it must pain you (and several of your other faithful readers) to see this, I think Michael doesn't look bad at all here! The only one I have any complaint with is Ernie...because, well, he's Ernie. 'Nough said.

I enjoyed this so much, i think you're all very adorable. What's so amazing about it is that you're all very aware of how you people perceive you, so you don't waste any time by exaggerating.
Other people would get overwhelmed by it!

I bought a set of DVDs off eBay that included this show, and Geraldo, Shampoo Horns, Party Monster, (both the movie and the shoclumentary) and an interview with Michael from prison.
I believe its still on there for about $30
