Shelf Life: Hello Kitty

Someone told NY Post gossipist Liz Smith, "I think we make a mistake when we judge people on their talents. It is their character that makes the difference in the long run." With that bit of wisdom in mind, Smith reveals today that slash-and-burn biographer Kitty Kelley already has her cursor winking on the name Oprah Winfrey for her next book. When she was peddling the idea, the entire publishing industry seemed to be away from its collective desk. Crown finally answered both the phone and her proposal. It seems perfect: Winfrey's on her third act and by the time it's finished, the juicy wigs-and-all bio should be the infusion of oxygen Oprah's Book Club will need. The quote up there, by the way, refers to Kelley, not Winfrey.
