Some exciting news from Sundance: Miss Navajo, WOW's feature-length film about the Miss Navajo Nation Pageant, has been selected to screen in the 2007 Sundance Film Festival. Billy Luther, the film's writer and director, got the idea to make the movie from his mother, who won the contest in 1966. The Miss Navajo Nation Pageant is not your regular smile-and-wave beauty show; contestants are required to demonstrate traditional and cultural skills, and previous pageant events have included fry-bread making and sheep butchering. Miss World it ain't.
