p.s. I'm of course talking about the song "This world is full of crashing bores" from the Quarry album. Duh.

Sorry, Y, but no. "Crashing bore" is a cliche for, you know, things that are very boring. I used it for the "crashing" part because of what happened to the towers. And although I like Morrissey OK, I like the Smiths more. Again, sorry.

I really enjoy this segment of the wow report, it should be a weekly occurance

Of course I knew the term...but it's rarely used anymore - well, maybe I just don't hang with the most vocabulary forward bunch...but still. It's shine had worn off long ago. Which is why I was hoping upon HOPE that you were referencing MORRISSEY - I like to think he's breathed new life into it after including it as a track title on the last album.

I was also hoping that this would be the start of a "find the Morrissey/Smiths reference in Ed.'s postings" game. Alas, I was playing alone, a game that wasn't intended to exist. Does that mean I both lost and won?

for the record: Marr was a VERY solid 50% of that band. The solo albums have never been the same. Marr knew how to set Morrissey's existentialist dilemas to the right music; highlighting, and sometimes entirely creating the pathos, irony, camp and of course feelings of alienation present and expected in most of Morrissey lyrics. Morrissey has yet to find someone that can not only complete his thoughts the way Marr did, but pull it off with such unmatched talent.
