Sour Kraut
Seems longer ago, but it was only May that we wrote here about that unidentifiable man in a sopping wet suit with the labels cut out of his clothing who showed up on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent, England, and puzzled doctors with his silence and ability to play virtuoso piano. Remember him? Now it appears it was all a hoax. A nurse at the Little Brook Hospital in Dartford, Kent, where he's been under observation all this time, went into his room as she did daily and said, as we're sure she always did, in that chipper nursey way while plumping his pillow, "Are you going to speak to us today?" Imagine her surprise when he said, "Yes, I think I will." Turns out he's a gay German who can't play the piano. None of it makes sense. Still, we're embarrassed for all the medical experts involved. And for gay Germans everywhere. (Mirror)
He said he had been working in Paris but had lost his job. He added that his father owned a farm in Germany and he had two sisters. He made his way to Britain on a Eurostar train and claimed he was trying to commit suicide when police picked him up on the beach in April. He flew home to Germany on Saturday. Health chiefs, who have wasted tens of thousands of pounds on treatment, are considering suing him.
