Colonel Gaddafi: tyrant, lunatic, fashion iconTuesday, August 23, 2011 09:45 AM
Say what you will about about the recently ousted despot, but nobody rocks a caftan, an old towel, or a set of epaulettes like Colonel Gaddafi. His fashion influences seem to range from Michael Jackson to Gandhi to the Phantom Stranger and back again. I especially like his penchant for glueing pictures of martyrs and dead dictator friends to suits. That's inspired. That's punk rock. He was one of the last true originals in totalitarian fashion. Sure we have Kim Jong Il, but his genderless pantsuits are too Hilary Clinton for my taste. Burma and Fiji have dashing dictators and I see promise in Belarus' Alexander Lukashenko, but I, for one, will miss seeing my Muammar in a cape and Yoko Ono sunglasses on the evening news.
