sad drag queens shill for Always feminine padsMonday, August 08, 2011 04:40 PM
Ad agency Leo Burnett UK says they gathered some of East London's finest transvestites for this "viral "video for Always pads. The commercial shows the drag queens weeping with the copy "There are some people who'd just love to have a period." Not surprisingly, blog commenters are indignant. From Copy Ranter: "It fails to understand women, it's completely homophobic, it has a complete lack of understanding towards transgendered issues. Most importantly though, it is not funny. Humor can make up for a lot of errors. I'm not laughing." From Jezebel: "There are people out there who do wish they had periods, whether they are trans or infertile or going through menopause. As much as menstruating women legitimately hate their periods, being excluded from the experience is painful for some people. And it's NOT FUNNY. At all. It's wrong to clumsily use that situation for humor, and it's definitely wrong to use it to make people who menstruate 'feel better' about their periods. It's insulting to everyone involved." And from YouTube, simply: "Holy Crap this is awful." What do you think: totally offensive or YAY DRAG QUEENS!
