I admit I had to do some research on this because I wasn't around when An American Family, the first reality show, aired back in January of 1973. Needless to say it was pretty groundbreaking and paved the way for countless other reality-based series we've come to love or hate over the years. Following the lives of the Loud family, audiences for the first time saw a married couple get divorced and witnessed the first openly gay person to appear on television. Yeah, they set the bar pretty high. This is the trailer for the HBO original movie starring Diane Lane, Tim Robbins, and James Gandolfini. (t/y Andrew)
