Repeal of DOMA? Forget About ItTuesday, January 18, 2011 02:44 PM tags: Broken Promises, DOMA, Don't Ask Don't Tell, ENDA, gay rights, Marriage Equality, The Obama Administration
Obama's Press Secretary, Robert Gibbs, let it be known today that a legislative repeal of DOMA is now "inordinately challenging given the current make-up of Congress." Gibbs then ducked a question by a reporter who asked if President Obama regrets that he did not act on repealing DOMA during the first two years of his presidency when the Democrats controlled both the House and the Senate by instead referencing the "monumental achievement" of repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell. A so-called "monumental achievement" that still does NOT include sexual orientation under military non-discrimination clauses, and has NOT been certified, and till this day does NOT allow for open and honest service by gay soldiers. But Obama continues to defend DOMA in court, and now seems to be admitting that his promises for a legislative repeal of all of DOMA were nothing but hot air. No word on passing ENDA either. So much for promises. (via JoeMyGod)
