23-year-old Czech Artist Paints Boys As BunniesFriday, October 22, 2010 10:26 AM
East Village Boys has an interview with the young Slovakia-based artist Andrej Dubravsky, who sent the website nude photos of himself along with samples of his art. As if his art wasn't intriguing enough? He depicts his boy subjects with long ears and whiskers. "A bunny for me is like the essence of a boy," he tells EVB's Weston Bingham, "a symbol of youth and playfulness, of something animal, mischievous and maybe of something a bit wicked that is inside every boy, a sort of an alter ago. I place the bunny into different situations – I am fascinated by its 'visuality,' by the fact that it is something between a human and an animal, yet sexy and seductive. I suppose I could compare my bunny to the kinky satyrs on the paintings of old masters like Correggio or Rubens. And at the same time I am also interested in examining the extent of mutation between the bunny and the boy." The interview is fascinating, but no one will fault you if you just want to look at all the pictures.
