Best Dressed writers of all timeFriday, October 15, 2010 04:46 PM
Flavorwire has compiled this fun list of literature's best dressed authors. From top, left: 16th century Faerie Queen author Edmund Spenser, Jane Austen, George Sand, Oscar Wilde, Edith Wharton, Anaïs Nin, William S Burroughs, Tom Wolfe, and Donna Tartt. Pretty impressive list, although I might have switched out the preposterous Tom Wolf for, say, Quentin Crisp and Anaïs Nin (with her Sharpie-drawn Chola eyebrows) for Isak Dinesen or Radclyffe Hall. And I think the jury is still out on Donna Tartt. Two books and one severe hairdo in twenty years does not a best dressed author make. But kudos for including female cross-dresser George Sand, junkie-chic Burroughs and ruff-wearing Spenser.
