Your first look: Kate Winslet as Mildred PierceMonday, April 19, 2010 12:12 PM tags: camp classic, desecration, joan crawford, Kate Winslet, Mildred Pierce, remakes, the 1940s, Veda PLEASE!, Weren't the pies enough mother?
Veda, PLEASE! This could go so terribly wrong, it's giving me hives just thinking about it. Kate Winslet in Joan Crawford's most famous role? Evan Rachel Wood as Veda? Guy Pearce as Monty? MARE WININGHAM as Mildred's sassy best friend? I'm withholding judgement until I see it, of course, but somehow this whole production strikes me as a bit too earnest. Which is probably what they're going for. I mean, there's no competing with the camp factor of the first one. You need to go an entirely different route. As long as they keep my all-time favorite movie line in it: "Weren't the pies ENOUGH, Mother?!" Uttered with COMPLETE AND UTTER MORTIFICATION by Veda when she learns her mother is going to become a waitress. Omg, I'm laughing right now. I scream that at my mom every single day. "Weren't the pies ENOUGH, Mother?!" Sometimes I just call her up in the middle of the night and shout it into the phone. "Weren't the pies ENOUGH, Mother?" God, I hope they don't screw this up!
