Coco a No-Go at FoxMonday, April 12, 2010 11:04 AM
Wow, as recently as earlier this morning, we were sure that Conan O'Brien, after serious meetings with Fox, would end up brightening that network with a fresh new late-night show after his nationwide forbidden-to-be-funny-on-TV comedy tour was finished. But Fox hemmed and hawed and offered the host a lower salary than he'd been getting at NBC, no guarantee of wide affiliate clearances, and little chance for him to own his own show. So TBS – shocking everyone – swooped in and signed him, offering a sweet deal that allows him to own the show, and includes an eight-figure compensation package said to be "bigger than any other deal he's ever had." O'Brien, whose tour starts today in Eugene, Oregon, said, "In three months I’ve gone from network television to Twitter to performing live in theaters, and now I’m headed to basic cable. My plan is working perfectly." (via The Wrap) In other Conan news, Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash wore an "I'm With Coco" badge on the Leno show last week. Cameramen were nervously advised to shoot around it. (t/y Louis)
