Because any press is good pressMonday, December 21, 2009 03:43 PM tags: Arlene Dahl, Fashion, fashion flashback, Halston, hot pants, Naomi Sims, Pat Cleveland, Soupy Sales, the 70s, What's My Line?, wtf?
In 1971, before there were fashion bloggers and live streaming fashion shows, Halston appeared on a completely groovy version of What's My Line to promote his new sensation "hot pants." Because a gig's a gig, right? And a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do to get her product out there. Of course he had yet to reach his Studio 54-era ubiquity, so it took a while before any of the panelists could guess who he was. Finally Soupy Sales figured it out (which perhaps says something about Soupy we didn't know). Then it was on to a completely ad hoc fashion show featuring the glamorous Naomi Sims and Pat Cleveland. And we thought it was all cocaine and champagne for those kids. They really had to work for their 15 minutes, huh? (t/y Ted and Brett)
