Newsweek: Obama Will Do NADA for Gays in 2010Saturday, December 19, 2009 04:35 AM
We’ve been told again and again by Obama supporters that despite the ever growing amount of evidence that President Obama is more than willing to betray the promises he made to the LGBT community, that if we just be quiet and show some “patience” the president will actually start standing up for our equality sometime soon. But if Newsweek is right with its political predictions, then those who bought into the doctrine of patience are going to be sorely disappointed. “What the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community has learned this year is that the president is ultimately a pragmatist. Although his very presence in the White House is the stuff of culture wars, Obama himself is reluctant to wade into one. Moreover, if socially divisive policies have the potential to compromise his legislative agenda, Obama has proven that he simply won’t pursue them. Expect this tension to become more acute as the 2010 elections loom—and for gay rights to be shunted aside again.” I actually think Newsweek is being a bit generous. I think Obama will do worse than nothing, for I believe he will actually work against gay rights in 2010. And sadly enough it appears the president doesn’t even want to wait until next year to get started. His administration has already begun doing worse than nothing, right now! (Photo by AGuyNamedWayne)
