That's Flocked Up!Wednesday, September 30, 2009 08:04 AM
As this Germania jet carrying 80 passengers was taking off from Dusseldorf airport for Kosovo, a flock of approximately 200 starlings flew at the plane and were sucked into one of the engines. "It was like a scene from the Hitchcock movie The Birds," said someone on the ground, citing the obvious comparison, though there's no jet plane in that movie. "One second all was clear, and the next thing you saw were these birds swarming over the plane." The pilot reported engine damage and circled the airport for 45 minutes before landing. Except for the birds, there were no injuries. In January, you'll remember, it was just this sort of thing that made a pilot a hero. (via Mail Online; photo: Juergen Kienast/Bild)
