Ellis Island

I did the party décor for an event on Ellis Island yesterday. From 1892 to 1954 Ellis Island was the main entry facility for immigrants entering the United States. It is estimated that 40% of all Americans had an ancestor arrive at Ellis Island. The facility fell into disrepair after it was abandoned in the 1960s, but was later renovated and opened to tourists in 1976. A museum was added in 1990 detailing the journey as well as the contributions immigrants had in making America the great melting pot it is today. (Click photo to start slide show)
