East Room Reception

As LGBT advocacy groups steadily intensify their criticism of President Obama, the White House decided it was a good time to throw the gays a party - to commemorate Stonewall. As with most events involving gays, the White House did not publicize the reception, and officials did not respond to e-mail requests for comment. But several gay activists confirmed they had received invitations to the event, and were told Mr. Obama was expected to speak. Some invitees made it clear that it would take more than a reception in the East Room to change their view that Mr. Obama has not been aggressive enough in pursuing gay rights. Several activists and LGBT organizations have now begun to put their money where their mouth is. The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) has announced they will join the ever growing list of gay activists that plan to protest and boycott the upcoming DNC fundraiser in Washington D.C.
