While Andy Roddick was advancing on the court, he missed his regular noon strip-down-and-cool-off appointment backstage in the 4c ice bath with Andy Murray and his fitness trainer Matt Little, coach Miles Maclagan, and Ross Hutchins. Pity. Looks like an ice place to be. (via Towleroad)

    Fashion Story with Links

    Friday, June 12, 2009 04:23 PM

    daly2.jpgdaly1.jpg

With the outfits this bad-boy golf champ wears these days, PGA is starting to stand for Pretty Garish Attire. John Daly's outfitter of choice is Loudmouth Golf, an honestly named California-based company that intends to bring back the kinds of colorful golf looks champs like Jack Nicklaus and Johnny Miller wore decades ago. But ramping them up considerably. Daly, now banished to the European PGA tour due to bad behavior, treats the fairway like a runway, modeling all the Loudmouth pant styles, from argyle to houndstooth to polka dot. (via Luxist)

French designer Chloe Ruchon has combined the pink world of girls with the sports world of guys in this foosball table soccer game she calls Barbie Foot, displayed at the Berlin International Design Festival 09. Created by Mattel and Babyfoot Bonzini, it'll probably be in stores in time for Christmas 2010, wouldn't you say? (via Gizmodo)

    Fast Times at Hilton High

    Thursday, June 11, 2009 10:21 AM

    ronaldo.jpghilton.jpg

One day after saying goodbye forever to Doug Reinhardt, Paris Hilton was observed insinuating herself into the lap and mouth of soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo, who didn't protest. The X17 website reports that Paris and her sister Nicky beelined themselves to Ronaldo's table at MyHouse last night and the heiress proceeded to make herself fully available. "Cristiano and Paris were all over each other swapping spit the entire night! His table needed every waitress in the building to service the large quantities of alcohol, and he spent an excess of 20 thousand dollars on champagne and drinks." Nicely oiled, they all left for Nicky's house at 3AM and the X17 paps shot video of the athlete leaving the house at 5AM.

    Fail Mary

Wowlebrity David Keeps, who was the ebullient gadabout host of World of Wonder's Ovation TV series Art & the City, was sponsored recently by WOW to get on the road again and join the 2,100 cyclists in the AIDS Lifecycle 8 marathon. Sadly, the "bike-curious" writer didn't fare so well. Or feel so well. Says he:

The AIDS Lifecycle ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles was absolutely NOTHING like I expected. Most people bust their butts on this 545-mile ride – me, I just cracked a rib and jacked my shoulder. And, somehow, got pneumonia. At mile 50, on the FIRST day of the ride, I ate asphalt after hitting a clump of dirt on US 1 near Pescadero Beach, leaving all kinds of DNA samples on the road. As I stared at my bloody fingers, a rider stopped and sprayed antiseptic on them. (Ouch and, um, thanks) My teammate Jeff helped me get to my feet and to the side of the road. I sat on a curb and, feeling a strong need to catch my breath, decided it would be wise to have a little lie-down. Those around me said I passed out. Tomato, to-mah-toe. Jeff captured this Kodak moment with the EMTs, then finished the ride. I got the prescription for Vicodin. Who's sorrrrrrrry now? (Photo: Jeff Spurrier)

    Who Caught the Cheese?

    Tuesday, May 26, 2009 06:22 PM

Once a year in the English countryside of Gloustershire hundreds of reckless folk gather to hurl themselves down the very steep Cooper's Hill in pursuit of an 8-pound wheel of Double Gloucester cheese. Injuries are sustained. Cheese sandwiches all round, we assume, at the end of day. (Tech Herald; t/y Jason)

    Recently Dead

    Friday, May 08, 2009 12:52 PM

    DominicDiMaggiowithJoe.jpg
Boston Red Sox outfielder Dominic DiMaggio, younger brother of Yankee Joe (pictured together in 1940), died today at home in Marion, Massachusetts, after a recent  bout with pneumonia. He was 92. Writer David Halberstam called the younger DiMaggio (nicknamed "the little professor" because of his short stature and big intelligence) "the most underrated player of his day," though he was elected to the Red Sox Hall of Fame in 1995. "He was a great teammate and an even better human being," said the ballclub's principle owner, John W Henry. And for a brief shining moment Marilyn Monroe was his sister-in-law. (Boston Globe)
